It had been a long day of shopping. All she wanted was a simple little wedding with family and friends. He was not cooperating in any of the preparations. Once again he repeated that they didn’t look to him like men wedding bands. He did the same thing in every jewelry store they went to.
She explained that gold bands were generic and hers would be the same only with an engagement ring next to it. All he kept saying was he didn’t want a feminine ring. She asked him what he expected them to buy as an alternative. He looked like a man with no clue. She repeated that a gold band was not going to look feminine.
She recalled her parents on the first night they met him. After he left, they asked questions like can he get a higher-paying job and even asked if she know what is IQ was. She couldn’t admit all she cared about was how handsome he was. All that blond curly hair and those tepid blue eyes compensated for a deficiency in the brains department.
But what about the children, she sometimes wondered. Well, my high IQ will make up for whatever points his is lacking she concluded. The job thing they could figure out later. She was not very good at planning ahead. She gave up on rings and took him to a furniture store.
Today she was focusing on the massive carved bed she wanted. She steered him away from the modern uninteresting furniture he was drawn to. Maybe she would have been content to sleep with him in a loft bed, but she was still getting her king-sized sleigh bed. Sleeping in a loft bed would be very romantic at first though. No, those were for children she thought.
The led him over to the bed she wanted. Although they couldn’t afford the whole set, the salesman said it was open stock. She could get the chest, dresser and two night stands later on. She wasn’t so sure they’d be available in six months as he said, but they ordered the bed and arranged delivery.
Back at the jewelry store, she looked over the rings again. They asked the salesman if he could point out the most masculine wedding bands for men. She urged her fiance to tell her what he thought of them. He agreed these were more appropriate for him although they were similar to all the others they had looked at. He picked one out, she was relieved and wouldn’t have criticized it if it had been ugly. They paid for it and headed for home.
