While you might want to live in a perfect world without conflict or aggravation, that is not where we reside. Anger is completely normal and a fact of life – it is when you get out of hand and your actions get out of control that it is a problem. However, allowing anger to take up residence inside of you can have a detrimental affect on your life.

If anger is a problem for you, then a refuge where you can get away to relax and meditate can be a very helpful therapy. You may have a backyard or place outside in which you could build a firepit and have the perfect place to relax. The warmth of a fire is comforting. The flickering of the flames is mesmerizing and restful to the mind. Sitting outside by the fire, away from the stresses and busyness of life, can be a time when you can confront and control your anger.

Feeling anger is normal, when you bottle it up inside it is you who suffers, not the people to blame. You may use your time by the fire to attempt to find a different perspective of the situation you are angry with. Conversely, you might be able to escape the situation and get some space from it. It seems that most of the time just spending a moment of two in silence can clear yourself of anger. If none of this helps, you may need to do something physical to help you overcome the anger. While sitting by the fire, you could write a letter venting your angry feelings. You can then burn the letter and with it let your anger evaporate. This is a great way to let out your anger without doing any harm to anybody of anything around you.

If something happens during the day that makes you angry, you may be able to deal with the situation better just knowing that once you get home, you have a place of retreat to soothe your emotions. You will be surprised at the positive effect that such a simple thing as your own private refuge can have on your mental state. You might be able to relieve yourself of work’s hectic madness. It can help you come up with ways to keep the peace with difficult individuals.

Having a fire within you that continues to feed on more and more angry situations is not healthy. Whereas a fire found in a pit can prove one of the most relaxing and healthy things of all.
